Checking As Part Of The Sport

About Checking

Like many sports, body contact is a strategic part of playing hockey. Teaching players how to give and receive a check is an important aspect of staying safe on the ice.

While we defer the training of full-check tactics to team coaches, we will address the basics of 'competitive contact', which is an on-ice fundamental (age appropriate).

Our Philosophy

Skills First, Checking Second

Ice Wolf Hockey's core focus with every player we work with is to help them become highly proficient at skating, stickhandling, agility, speed, passing, teamwork, and mastering hockey sense. We will discuss checking as a part of the game but our skills training will will focus on ways to avoid, protect and deflect body contact while carrying the puck.
